WORKING GIRLS was inspired by the experiences of the sex workers who Lizzie Borden got to know during the shoot for BORN IN FLAMES. Newly released as part of the Criterion Collection, the film shows the underlying structures of a day in the life of Molly (Louise Smith), a photographer who also works in a brothel in Manhattan. By viewing the narrative from the perspective of work, Lizzie Borden is able to create an empathetic and often humorous depiction of everyday professional life for these women. We are showing the restoration by Janus film as a European premiere. For the repeat screening, we are showing the German-subtitled 35mm print from the Arsenal archive.
